Your Business & Community Partner 

Many of the Accomplishments during 2007 are reflective of the Goals the Chamber set for the year:

  • To identify and serve the interests and needs of Chamber Members while expanding membership and the retention of existing Members.

  • To be the leader in the expansion of a convention and visitor bureau within our community.

  • The 2007 Board of Directors will implement a Business Assistance Team (BAT) to help businesses, with a need for business advice or input. A team of local business people will be recruited to serve as members of the BAT and consult with local businesses or individuals as needed.

  • To keep our membership informed on vital business issues facing our community.

  • To continue to improve and maintain the Lola Montez House as the location for the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber and location of the Nevada County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

  • To provide for financial stability for the Chamber and provide value added benefits for our Membership.To strengthen local economy and be voice of business within our community.

2007 Program of Work

Chamber Vision:  The Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce promotes business through member services, educational programs, cooperative partnerships and leg8islative advocacy that balances economic prosperity with the quality of life. 

1.  Leadership Development and Administration 

Mission:  To review the Chambers annual Program of Work, evaluate it as it relates to the Chamber’s mission and provide input and direction to attain the Program’s objectives. 

  • Conduct annual Board Retreat

  • Develop annual  Program of Work

  • Obtain input from members in developing annual goals by way of surveys

  • Evaluate revenue events & projects

  • Continue as major sponsor for the Nevada County Community Leadership Program

2.  Economic Development, Economic Development  

Economic Development Mission:  To commit resources and expertise to assist in business retention, expansion and recruitment efforts to maintain a healthy business environment while balancing economic development and quality of life issues. 

  • Explore “Community Leadership Roundtables” in a collaborative effort with Grass Valley and Nevada County leadership, Grass Valley Downtown Association, Chambers, Economic Resource Council, Contractors Association, Business Association, and other identified business leaders and groups within our community

  • Develop programs to help business succeed

  • Partner with business organization on business development opportunities

  • Represent Chamber on ERC Board

 3.  Government Division & Business Assistance Team

Mission:  To represent the business community with  levels of government, in an effective, timely fashion and provide a communications link between business and government.  Be a resource for Chamber businesses. 

  • Advocate for business with city, county & state officials

  • Establish methods to communicate Chamber’s position on legislative positions to key stakeholders

  • Invite Leaders to periodic Board meetings

  • Educate members and their employees about legislative issues impacting them

  • Develop candidates questionnaire for local and possibly statewide offices, when necessary

  • Create new Business Assistance Team

4.  Ambassador Division

Mission:  To promote the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce as the strongest business advocacy organization within Nevada County.  Ambassadors are the public relations arm of the Chamber. 

  • Recruit new chamber members or refer to chamber staff

  • Conduct Ribbon Cuttings

  • Coordinate Mixers

  • Official greeters at Mixers

  • Assist with Chamber events

  • Visit member businesses

***AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE 

5.  Membership Development & Marketing Division

Mission:  To increase and retain members in the Chamber and improve member benefits 

  • Identify recruitment and retention methods

  • Increase membership by 150 members in 2007

  • Develop and implement quarterly survey of members (Zoomerang)

  • Evaluate Chamber publications & continue to improve Chamber technology

6.  Finance Division 

Mission: To prepare, supervise and evaluate annual budget and financial data and to ensure the long-term financial stability of the Chamber 

  • Oversee Development of annual budget

  • Create long-range financial plan

  • Review financial reports

***EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 

7.  Tourism & Promotion 

Mission:  To oversee the marketing and promotion of western Nevada County as tourist destination.  Staff and operate the Tourist & Visitor Center 

  • Continue with marketing plan for the Visitor & Information Center of Nevada County

  • Create a program to marketing promote our Convention Center in conjunction with participating hotels, motels and B & B;s.

  • Continue on-going promotion with Joint Chambers of Commerce for promotion of Nevada County

  • Operate Chambers Tourism Center 6 days per week
