Off Broadstreet brought the house down in laughter with vignette's from their Waiting For "Lola" musical at the Grass Valley / Nevada County Chamber's gala 100th anniversary celebration!
The story line of Waiting For “LOLA” is typical Off Broadstreet wacky musical comedy fare. To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce, a small group of local business people and performers will use 20th Century music to tell the story of the town's Gold Rush beginnings from the perspective of three famous female celebrities of the time: Lola Montez, Lotta Crabtree and Emma Nevada.
The ladies have just one shot at getting it right for a live video-taping to be entered in the Sundance Film Festival. Unfortunately, on the night of the taping, the big name San Francisco professional actress hired to play Lola Montez fails to show up!
What can they do? The show must go on!
Waiting For “LOLA” stars Sue LeGate, Kris Stepanian, Chris Crockett and Richard Joplin and includes some of the most upbeat and sensational familiar top tunes ever performed at Off Broadstreet: including Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On, Maneater, Whatever Lola Wants, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Respect, When You’re Good To Mama and a host of other great songs by Jerry Lee Lewis, Sam Cooke, Earth Wind & Fire, The Animals, ABBA and many more.
Suitable for all audiences, Waiting For “LOLA” opens at Off Broadstreet Theatre, 305 Commercial Street, Nevada City, CA on Friday, Feb 26th and plays at 8:15 PM Fridays and Saturdays through April 10th as well as Sunday, March 14th at 2:00 PM.
Reservations are required. For reservations, please phone 265-8686.
