California Preservation Conference May 12-15th Grass Valley and Nevada City
Grass Valley and Nevada City hosted the 2010 California Preservation Conference “Preserving a Sense of Place” May 12-15th. The Conference included more than 30 Sessions, Tours and Workshops on issues facing California's historic, cultural and natural resources - taught by over 100 expert speakers. Continuing education unitswere available for AIA, MCLE, and AICP! FREE PRESENTATION: Thursday, 5/13/10 Plenary Session 9:00—11:30 AM, Del Oro Theatre, Grass Valley Doug McConnell, host of the long-running “Bay Area Back Roads” and the PBS series “Open Road with Doug McConnell” will open this presentation. Features include presentation of awards to individuals from across California and the presentation of the 1st Annual Youth Film Competition, launched in Nevada County! FREE LECTURE: Thursday, 5/13/10, Lecture: “The Illuminated Landscape: A Sierra Nevada Anthology” Thursday, 2:00—3:00 PM, Nevada Theatre. This presentation will include literary descriptions, placed in historical context, of what the famous naturalist John Muir called the “Range of Light”. Among the authors represented are Sierra Nevada Native Americans, Mark Twain, Bret Harte, Dame Shirley, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Muir, Ansel Adams, Jack Kerouac, David Brower, Tom Knudson, Gary Snyder and many more who have written about the magnificent but threatened range.
