Business & Government Committee Larry Ingersoll, Chairman This year through our Business and Government Committee we will continue to keep our members informed on issues coming before the Grass Valley City Council and the Nevada County Board of Supervisors that could have an impact on businesses within western Nevada County. Through our Business and Government Committee we provide a voice for business to Government. Our partnership with the California Chamber of Commerce also enables our Chamber to keep businesses informed of pertinent business issues in California as well as relevant federal mandates that can affect California businesses. We feel it is important to educate and promote strong community leadership to ensure that the future of our community is secure and safe, offering employment opportunities within successful business environments that prosper and maintain the exceptional quality of life we all enjoy and value. Communications Committee Robin Milam, Chairperson The Chamber is proud of our website www.grassvalleychamber.com which is updated regularly. This website contains information and opportunities for Chamber members and soon will offer advertising opportunities. The website highlights our community and environment as an exceptional and beautiful place to live, work, recreate and visit. On the website one can ‘click’ to other pertinent website such as the City of Grass Valley, Nevada County, other Chambers, Economic Development, calendar of events, lodging, restaurants, and much more. Our Newsletter will have a brand new look this spring, we also send out eNews Blasts to our members on a regular basis and have a monthly column in The Union Newspaper. Community Relations Mary Ann Mueller, Chairperson One of the Chambers biggest contributions to the community is our ability to answer thousands of calls monthly about every topic imaginable. The Chamber staff and volunteers make business referrals, direct residents to services and informs the public on events and activities in our community. We produce an annual Calendar of Events in partnership with the Nevada City Chamber that features monthly major events happening with western Nevada County. To further inform the Chamber has a weekly “Chamber Update” on KNCO Radio and often speaks to clubs and organizations about the Chamber and our community. The Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber is located in the restored Lola Montez House in downtown Grass Valley and we are the official Tourism and Visitors Center of Grass Valley and western Nevada County. Membership Development Committee Hank DiPillo, Chairman
The Membership Development Committee will work closely with Ambassadors in membership retention and development. They will create incentives for membership retention and new member development. There will be outreach to existing members as well as referral to Chamber Staff for new member recruitment.
Nevada County Leadership Institute Mary Ann Mueller, Chairperson The Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce along with the Nevada County Campus of Sierra College co-founded the Nevada County Leadership Institute (NCCLI) in 1996. After researching other community leadership programs, we took the best parts and molded them to fit our county, our culture and our people. This year the 13th class of NCCLI will graduate in June of 2009. NCCLI is a special series of one-day classes that look into a variety of issues, topics and institutions that impact Nevada County. What makes the class unique is that it brings together a cross-section of residents from throughout the county, who experience the sessions together. These are business people, government officials, and community members who seek a role in our community’s future. By the time the participants graduate, they have developed a solid understanding of the facts and fabric of Nevada County. And just as important, they have established relationships with the very people, like themselves, who will one day be in a position to make decisions that affect their community. With the perspective, relationships and leadership skills developed during NCCLI, they will be better prepared to contribute to a positive outcome. Tourism & Promotion Committee Steve Young, Chairman The Chamber Staff and Volunteers respond to thousands of requests for visitor information and we saw close to 6,000 visitors come to our offices last year. We mailed over 4,000 tourist packages and 200 relocation packages. We handled over 10,000 telephone requests from individuals needing a variety of information about our community. 2009 we will work with the newly formed Convention & Visitors Bureau to draw more mid-week stays to western Nevada County. We will fund a booth space for our local lodging group to attend a travel conference in Santa Clara County in January. Under our Tourism and Promotion Committee the Chamber will continue to market and promote western Nevada County as a tourism destination. The Chamber runs the “official” Visitors Center for Grass Valley and western Nevada County and we are open for business 6 days a week. We create and publish dozens of brochures and collateral materials for visitors, residents and to disseminate at conferences and events throughout the year. |
